SALCAF CEO HAPPY NEW YEAR

Dear brothers and sisters,

On behalf of everyone at Sierra Leonean Canadian Federation (SALCAF), I would like to wish you a Happy New Year. Our organization was formed on October 16, 2016, and 2016 was a big year for
the Sierra Leonean Canadian Federation.

From that date we have achieved the following:

  • We successfully registered our organization with the Federal Government of Canada.
  • We hosted the Sierra Leonean Family Potluck, during which we met and interacted with proud Sierra Leoneans
from various areas in the GTA.
  • We established contact with other not for profit organizations.
  • We have also made an effort to start conducting needs assessment in Sierra Leone so that we will be able to
address community needs in the future.
  • We developed a Strategic Plan that will serve as a guide for our development interventions.
  • We have shown solidarity for our members by keeping constant communication with each other through our
    forum and phone calls.

This is a manifestation of maintaining our core values of ONE HEART, ONE MIND, and ONE VOICE.
As we enter the year 2017. I must express that I am especially pleased about the determination that
all SALCAF members have demonstrated to move this organization forward.

Our focus in 2017 will include:

  • Official Launching of the Sierra Leonean Canadian Federation (SALCAF), as an organization in Canada.
  • Establishing more contacts with other organizations.
  • Supporting members as the need may arise.
  • Working on Project Proposals to address community needs in Canada and Sierra Leone.
  • Review our strategic Plan to reflect the prevailing needs of our communities.

I would like to strongly remind everyone that we should continue to work together with an open
mind, celebrating our successes and learning from our mistakes. We should also be ready to face
the challenges that lie ahead.

Thank you for your commitments to the Sierra Leonean community. We count on your support so that
together, we can make an impact on the Sierra Leonean community here in Canada and back home.

I wish everybody a happy, healthy and prosperous 2017.

Regards,

    So much to do...

"Dirty water and hygiene issues are the main causes of diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid in Sierra Leone.
Improving access to clean water and toilets will help to reduce the risk of disease outbreaks.”

    Giving love...

"It's not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.
We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

    Helping others...

"There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.
The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's problems.”

    Benevolence, charity, compassion, kindness...

"The simplest acts of kindness are by far more powerful then a thousand heads bowing in prayer.
As one person I cannot change the world, but I can change the world of one person.”

    Joseph Lakoh, Chief Advisor

    Compassion and inspiration

"When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.
Do your little bit of good where you are, it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
